Looking for some local music? Here are a few of our favorite spots where you can regularly find live music and when to visit.
Trusty’s Full Service – 1st & 3rd Wednesday
A local dive with a full-on bus bar. You heard that right. The upstairs bar is built from an old school bus. Every first and third Wednesday features live music from local artists upstairs at the bus bar. Sometimes these might be recording artists coming back up from Nashville to try out their music back home.
Note: downstairs beer list is brief and to the point, but upstairs beer selection is more diverse. Great cheesesteaks as well.
Boundary Stone - Mondays
Want to see an open mic filled with amazing talent? Check this place out any Monday. You can sign up to hop on stage as well. Don’t have a guitar? No worries, they have loaners and plenty of people around to help with back up music on the fly.
They also have a monthly Singer-Songwriter series that’s more of an organized set.
The Dubliner - Nightly
The Dubliner is the oldest Irish pub in Washington, DC, located just blocks from the Capitol and Union Station. Here you can find live Irish music nightly in their main bar at 7:30. Some of their performers will include great stories laying out the history found in the music when introducing songs.
Georgetown Piano Bar – Wednesday-Sunday
Tucked away in a basement on M Street, Georgetown Piano Bar is open Wednesday-Sunday at 5 pm, has live piano music nightly and takes requests! Fridays and Saturdays have dueling pianos starting at 9. Here you will find an interesting mix of locals and college students from nearby Georgetown and George Washington Universities.
Mr. Henry’s – Wednesday-Saturday
Mr. Henry’s has a long history of Jazz including once regularly featuring Roberta Flack. Today they hosts live jazz music Wednesday-Saturday.
Black Cat - Varies
Looking for more of a concert hall? Locally owned Black Cat is a staple in DC for live music, often featuring national acts and typically along the lines of punk, grunge, rock. Check their schedule for upcoming acts.
