When the tour group returned from their Capitol Tour one of my guests mentioned to me "she was 50 years too late. I am not a school child and she keeps [gestures with his hands] telling us how and where to stand." I just smiled and shrugged as the tour was over and it seemed like a minor issue. I led my group around to the usual break spot and this man, his wife and son were lagging behind, but they were coming around the corner as I stopped at the break spot.

A few minutes later CVC supervisor, Mike, approached me and asked if he could speak with me. I of course agreed. He told me that one of my guests had spoken so harshly to our Capitol Guide that she was in tears and that "out of respect" he was coming to me. I listened to the issue and explained that I was sorry the guide was upset, but I had no idea what had happened. He then said he should throw the man out of the Capitol and was aggressive and threatening towards me. I explained that he should feel free to do whatever he felt was necessary, but that he needed to watch his tone in speaking with me. I did not make the comments and while I sympathize, none of this was my business. He again warned me that if this ever happened again, the guest would be thrown out. I told him again that we obviously understand and support the staff and Capitol Police in running their building however they need and would respect their decisions, but that there was no need to take this threatening tone with me as the situation had nothing to do with me.

After Mike walked away, the guest who complained approached me to ask if that was about his complaint and to try to explain. I told him that I didn't need to know anything else about it. He asked if the Capitol was asking him to leave. I told him that at this point they weren't and unless they did so, no action was required. The group completed the break and we headed to the Library. I had no further issues with this family on the tour and had none before this incident. I obviously have no idea what was said, but the position I took was that this was a situation among adults and I should only have been involved if staff would have liked to tell me that they had removed one of our guests from the building, although I acknowledge that it would only be a courtesy. I did not know the guide. A woman, younger, short, the 1:40pm tour. We sat on the bench and chatted a bit before the tour and she seemed friendly.
